Simple yet deep learning at the same time

I love the doodle graphics in "The Remedy". They add so much to the book and bring the learning points out so the concepts are easy to grasp. This is one of the first books I've read that deals with Lean outside of Manufacturing and with the issues Lean faces with implementation in the rest of the enterprise. Pascal does this in a way that is both simple and deep at the same time. He has a way of making the characters seem so lifelike that their stories become part of the leassons learned not a distraction from them.

The practical side of Lean Thinking

We have been teaching Lean Thinking in our business for 2 years now, and while we are using it on each project where possible, we have struggled to understand what the steps are to engage the whole organisation so that we can turn it into the company we know it can be. "The Remedy" is the closest thing I have come across that really describes the challenges we face, and offers a prescriptive step by step method to address those challenges. I am about to try Dennis' methods this week, so it's early days, but this for me was the missing information I needed to make a company-wide transition seem possible. I have recommended the book to all of my colleagues in consulting. I believe it sets a new standard.

A Great Explanation of Lean Thinking

This book does a great job of explaining a very broad variety of topics related to the Lean quality improvement philosophy. It is filled with helpful doodled illustrations and is very quick and easy to read. None of the topics is covered in depth, but the book does a good job of indicating just how deep each topic goes and how much more there is to learn than what can be covered in the book.
The book tells the story of a fictional auto plant manager who has transformed his plant with Lean thinking and now has to spread the philosophy to the other parts of the enterprise. As a novel, the book is not likely to be made into a film anytime soon, but the story moves rapidly and (spoiler alert!) has a happy ending, so it doesn't take away from the book's value.
The book also does an excellent job showing how the Lean approach can be applied outside of the manufacturing setting and illustrating how lean production is only one part of a business system that affects all parts of a company's operations and strategy.

Masterpiece

It's no surprise that this play, one of the finest I have ever seen, won considerable international acclaim. I would not hesitate to rank it among the top ten masterpieces of 20th century drama.

Plays come and go, but this one, first produced at London's Royal Court in 1995, has all the hallmarks of a timeless treasure. It's drama, and poetry, full of unbelievably rich characterizations and history of Ireland's Time of Troubles.

Thomas Dunne, the seventy-something Da, anchors the play firmly, though not exactly in the play's here and now, about 1932.

Three of Da's four children have relegated him to an Irish county home, not for lack of love. No, Da's gone mad, as his effervescent lapses into the past make altogether real.

He is not so mad, though, not to know the truth of things, and there is the beauty in this Lear-like drama.

Play-lovers will melt on reading or hearing the final 15-minute soliloquy of this masterpiece. Da tells about a dog he had as a child, a dog his father did not want him to have, one that he brought home anyway.

"And I knew that dog and me were for slaughter. My feet carried me on to where he stood, immortal you would say in the door. And he put his right hand on the back of my head, and pulled me to him so that my cheek rested against the buckle of his belt....

"And I would call that the mercy of fathers, when the love that lies in them deeply like the glittering face of a well is betrayed by an emergency, and the child sees at last that he is loved, loved and needed and not to be lived without, and greatly."

That hint of the powerful closing, though, is just the beginning. For the play proves equally rich throughout.

If you can't see the play, you should still read it.

This is a wonderful play. I saw it performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and was drawn in by the beauty of the language and the power of the story. It's quiet, at first; and then the drama of a man left behind by history gradually insinuates itself into your consciousness and your heart.

I love most Irish playwrights and novelists, but this play was a dreary, over-written clunker of a memory play.

Did not care for the writing at all -- monologue heavy, all of the burden on the central character, dreary setting, a memory play with no real action. Almost unplayable for the central character. And onstage, in 2013, at the Mark Taper in Los Angeles, Brian Dennehey seemed to have regretted signing on for the project. He gave a couple of newspaper interviews that indicated he had no idea why he had agreed to do this. The script is a dreary read. That production was a dreary slog.

About the Author
Zareer Dadachanji is a quantitative analysis consultant with nearly two decades of corporate experience, mostly in financial quantitative modelling across a range of asset classes. He has spent 14 years working as a front-office quant at banks and hedge funds, including NatWest/RBS, Credit Suisse and latterly Standard Chartered Bank, where he held the position of Global Head of FX Quants.

Does anyone EVER stay dead?!?

Like WTH?!? These folks have more lives than cats! I mean after funerals, burials etc., people STILL coming back from the dead. Pretty annoying and makes you just want to quit the series. Too bad I already purchased up to part 6...

What the heck?!!!

First let me say, I LOVE(D) The Cartel series until this. I can just imagine the converasation A & J had when the contemplated writing another Cartel book. Jacquavis: "Yo, the streets is mad missing the Cartel right now! Yo, let's flood the streets with more (I'm using his I'm speaking like a street hustler, but refering to books voice).
Ashley: "But, we've killed all but one character off Qua?".
Jacquavis: "Don't matter...the streets are dry right know! Let's just make-up some s***, they real hungry. Let's get this money A!" (Again, in that same voice).
Ashley: "You're right, supernatural stuff is real hot right now. Let's do it!".

Ashley and Jacquavis...shame on you!!! I live in the REAL world, where REAL things happen, and the only person I know that rose from the dead was Jesus and your characters are far from the Misiah. Love the Cartel Series!!!!!

Let me say that the Cartel will be another movie that A&J will produce. The skills that A&J bring forth is just amazing. Many would say why or what is going on be I saw BRAVO!!!!! The best part of a good book is the unknowm and I had no idea what was gonna happen in Cartel 4, and that is what I love about reading their books. If I was able to forsee what was gonna happen then it was gonna be no fun reading it. Thank you and Bring on Cartel 5 and yes Cartel 5 sorry about the Spoiler but if I go on I will tell you the Book.

Magic Power of Your Mind

I read this book in the 50's and it changed my life. View life as a cornucopia with all good things flowing to you is what I have carried with me all of my life. Believe me when I say,it has brought me a life of plenty, good and plenty for me and everyone I know.

A very motivational book

This is a very interesting book. It deals with the power of the mind and specifically the power of the subconscious mind which it refers too as the supraconscious mind. This is the creative part of the mind that specifically deals with imagination. Remember that Albert Einstein said," Imagination is more important than knowledge." The book makes the point that the supraconscious is your sending and receiving set to the universe.

The book gives many examples of how this power has expanded and transformed lives. One of the most interesting is how a teenaged boy named Alois P. Swoboda, who was dying of consumption, was befriended by a Pinkerton Detective named Daniel Boone Herring in Omaha, Nebraska in 1899.

After getting the boy a menial job in a saloon Herring didn't see the boy again for 5 years when he ran into him in New York City. At this pioint the boy was well dressed and robust and bore no resemblance to the boy that he had seen 5 years earlier in Omaha, Nebraska.

Swoboda told Herring how when he was working in the saloon that a bum had come in to "mooch" a lemon. As the bum was sucking on the lemon Swoboda realized that the sight of the man sucking on the lemon caused him to drool in his mouth. He then correctly reasoned that thinking can make the organs of the body function perfectly. He went on to work at a ranch in Wyoming and used the power of suggestion and visualization that he had discovered to develop himself into a perfect physical specimen over the next few years. He had learned how to tap into the power of the supraconscious.

Swoboda originated the first mail order physical fitness course which featured his body/mind exercises and titled the course "Conscious Evolution." He exerted a strong influence on the American Intelligentsia of that era. One of his strongest and most enthusiatic backers was Elbert Hubbard, one of the the leading US intellectuals of the era and the founder of the Roycrofters Community of Artisans. Daniel Boone Herring went on to become a very successful motivational writer.

best 'how to' book I ever read

I have read dozens of self-help and other instructional books, but never one that was as direct and specific on how the reader could put the ideas to use. I immediately started doing the mental exercises and they have already (one month later) changed my life for the better. And I was a pretty happy and positive person to start with. I would recommend this book to anyone suffering from depression, inadequacy, tension, etc.

I ordered this book for school, as i began to read this book i couldn't put it down its a great read if your someone who is fascinated on how children begin to pick up language and how they articulate words.

Fascinating!

As a father, grandfather, and former pediatrician, I have observed many children acquire a language. However, only recently did I become deeply curious about this mysterious process. This book proved to be exactly what I needed. The presentation is orderly, well-written, and very readable. The process of language acquisition is analysed and described clearly. The clever methods of researchers in this field are made understandable and fascinating. The mysteries remaining to be explained are presented frankly. This is a book that both parents and professionals can read for both pleasure and enlightenment.
