Oracle Data Modeler has been gaining more and more popularity since Oracle decided to give it for free. It has appeared to be quite rich in features and supports other databases too like SQL Server and DB2.
Already the beginning of the book is stunning: forewords by Chris Date himself and the legendary asktom - Tom Kyte!
This book has a very clear structure and Helskyaho remembers to stress the importance of data modeling and relational principles, not just the tool. The tips are well thought, the first tip answers right away the question in many minds: how to share your design with others.
Helskyaho explains all steps needed to design and create a database using the Data Modeler. She covers also the Data Warehousing area very well. Both dimensional modeling (star and snowflake schema) and Data Vault modeling are included. This is great since most books concentrate only on one method.
This book is a joy to read and it can save you a lot of time. If you think that it is expensive, remember that the Data Modeler is free. This book really is a good investment.
The writer is very experienced and shares a lot of useful information about data modeling, agile database projects and data warehousing. I would recommend it even to somebody interested in those subjects even if he or she is not going to use Data Modeler.

Linear Programming: Methods and Applications: Fifth Edition

This book is excellent for everyone who is studying Linear Programming. What is especially useful is the large number of references that are included at the end of each chapter. The second thing is the inclusion of introductory material in chapters 1 to 4 for the first time student. The third thing that is good is the inclusion of many applications, making the book very useful for the experienced student of Operations Reserch. The fourth is the abundance of exercises at the end of each chapter. I strongly recommend this book for students, especially those who are from disciplines outside Mathematics, who will use computational techniques of Linear Programming.

A solid companion

If you are really interested in Linear Programming this book makes a great resource. It also makes a good companion book if you are studying Operations Research, as the LP component is comprehensive. The book gives a good explanation of the revised simplex method and duality problems. Also,sensitivity analysis is explained and demonstrated in a very straightforward and easy to understand manner.

A great variety

My daughter uses this book for extra math practice. As you work your way through, the problems progressively become more difficult. I love how each day has a mixture of different types of math problems; some are simple and some are more complex. It keeps my daughter from becoming easily bored and/or frustrated.
