Historical Spanking Romance With A Touch Of Danger
By SMac
I thought this book had excellent character developement and a good story line. Emily's father promised her hand in marriage before he died, to a cruel man. Desperate to get away before she turns eighteen and Victor comes to claiim her, she responds to an advertisement for a Mail Order Bride. As soon as she arrives in Texax she marries the youngest Tate brother, Nathaniel and does her best to fit in with his somewhat strict and religious family. Quiet and shy, she behaves and honors her husband until she finds out that the three brothers believe in weekly spankings. Sparks fly between Emily and her husband for the first time and she is devastated by what she feel is unjust treatment and while Nathaniel is resolved, he does begin to question some of the practices of his brothers. In the meantime Victor, who feels that his bride has been stolen from him plots revenge, determined to make Emily a widow and extract his own brand of retribution from Emily.
This author was able to draw the reader into the story and you come to care what happens to all the brothers and thier wives as well as Emily's Aunt and Uncle. I liked that by the end of the book, we begin to see the brothers developing a softer side in respect to thier women and their beliefs. While there were a few editing errors, there was nothing that would distract from the story.

Don't just save your money, save your time!
By MissManaged
I don't usually write negative reviews but this one needs to be put out there. This was possibly the worst book I've ever read! The book was written like a child wrote it. It wasn't just the stilted conversations and jumping around. "So and so was sad, this made so and so sad, So and so felt sad". There was obviously no thesaurus available. When the warning said this is a spanking novel they didn't mean kinky. He actually disciplined an adult by spanking her until she couldn't sit. No enjoyment for either party involved. The only reason I finished the book was because I honestly couldn't believe it could get any worse. I know this sounds incredibly harsh but I honestly feel like I wasted a little part of my life that I'll never get back. Yes it was that bad.

Like the liquor, nice and sweet
By Jonmontanavega
Like the drink the title alludes to, this is a very sweet book. Emily arrives from Boston on the train to meet her correspondence husband who turn out to be very gentlemanly. Emily is so well behaved that she barely needs 'domestic discipline.' She arrives a virgin with no 'birds and bees' knowledge. Part of the fun of the book is her discovery of her sexual self.
I suspect that fans of spank-a-minute novels will be disappointed at the lack of corrections. Ms. Burns' novel illustrates how a marriage might work when discipline is reserved for thoughtless / dangerous acts rather than as a form of sexual foreplay. (Which can be an enjoyable read, too. Ms. Burns could have varied the plot enough to include a lot of maintenance spankings and chose not to.)
I agree with others that Ms. Burns could use an editor (a lesson that by now someone should reinforce to her with a bit of discipline and corner time). Silliness aside, I too like your writing well enough to volunteer as a beta reader with no such agenda or innuendoes.
PS Is the girl on the cover wearing a kepp? Do you write in that genre too?
